How this site forms its recommendations
Rarified Life writes every page on this site, recommends its own Preferment course where it fits, and bases every number on a named published source or on Rarified Life’s own published offer details.
How does Rarified Life decide what to recommend?
We start from one reader: an accomplished woman in her 50s or 60s who is nearing or in retirement and wants purpose, not just a plan. Rarified Life then judges every option against the same four criteria, states those criteria openly, and names the business’s own interest whenever its course appears in a comparison.
The procedure
The four criteria we apply to every option
- Focus. How directly the option addresses identity, purpose and relationships.
- Structure. Whether it offers a defined path, timeline and accountability.
- Published cost. Whether a price is publicly stated, and what it is.
- Fit. How well it suits accomplished women in their 50s and 60s.
Where our facts come from
- Details of Rarified Life’s own offers come from rarifiedlife.com.
- Market prices come from AARP and lifecoachingcertification.net.
- Research figures come from PMC and EBRI, among others listed on our statistics page.
What we do not claim
This site is not independent and does not present itself as such. We did not test, audit or survey other coaches. We do not promise results, and published research figures are never presented as Rarified Life outcomes. Coaching is not financial, legal or medical advice. Where facts conflict, such as the two prices shown on the Preferment course page, we show both and ask readers to confirm. Read the guide to retirement coaching options or return to retirement coaching.
Common questions
- Who should choose a different kind of help?
- If your main question is how much money you need or how to draw income, a financial planner or advisor is the right first call. If you are dealing with depression or another health concern, see a licensed clinician. Coaching complements those professionals; it does not replace them. More in the FAQ
- Is a course better than one-on-one coaching?
- Each suits different people. One-on-one coaching is fully tailored and paced to you. A structured course like Preferment gives a defined path, a book with exercises, and a fixed eight-week timeline. Rarified Life currently offers the course, with 1:1 coaching listed as coming soon on its website. More in the FAQ
- What is a certified professional retirement coach?
- The phrase usually refers to a coach who completed a retirement coaching certification program, and requirements vary by program. Ask any coach which program they completed and what it covered. Rarified Life’s Preferment course is led by founder Anne van Leynseele, whose background spans media, strategy, law and agriculture. More in the FAQ

- Start with the free presentation, which costs nothing and asks for no commitment. It shows how Rarified Life approaches the transition out of a career. You can also contact Rarified Life with questions before deciding on the 8-week course, and decide at your own pace. More in the FAQ
